ROANOKE, VA, March 20, 2023 – Benefit Plan Administrators, Inc. (“BPA”), announced their collaborative efforts with industry leaders WLT and TALON to bring members and employers transparency through WLT’s MediConnX360, powered by TALON.
For over 30 years, BPA has administered self-funded health plans to many entities in Virginia and across the entire United States. With the recent requirement of employer health plans having to disclose provider pricing to remain compliant with the Transparency in Coverage Rule (TiC) and No Surprises Act (NSA), BPA has taken the necessary steps with this partnership to ensure their clients remain compliant with these new regulations and members are more involved in their healthcare decisions, specifically where they receive care and how much it may cost.
Armed with these new capabilities, BPA, WLT, and TALON hope to establish a market-driven healthcare system, enable comparison shopping, expose real-time pricing information and out-of-pocket liability, stabilize and reduce the price of health care services, and empower, inform, and incentivize action from consumers.
“Our industry has seen a lot of legislative change in the past five years, most of which has caused great confusion with health plan sponsors and administrators,” said BPA President Morris Masinter. “However, this new tool from WLT and TALON is revolutionary. Not only in the sense that it ensures compliance for employers, but also for the endless possibilities it creates for our members. This is the future of healthcare, and we’re excited to be leading the charge.”
Users of the BPA platform can access the tools on their desktops and mobile devices. Within the platform, members can utilize price comparison tools for common procedures, access coupons for medicines, receive text messages and emails for missed savings opportunities, see provider directories, access full capabilities insights, and more.
Furthermore, the platform has a one-of-a-kind scoring system for facilities and procedures. An M-Score measures how dominant a facility is in the market as it relates to a specific procedure, an S-Score measures how specialized a facility is as it relates to a specific procedure, and the proprietary ProScore combines the two, creating a single, simple metric for ranking providers on procedure frequency. This allows members to educate themselves on the quality of the providers who may perform their operations.
“BPA is a leading third-party administrator with the common goal of utilizing technology to enable better choices for health plan members; a partnership was a natural fit,” said Mark Galvin, Co-Founder, President, and CEO of TALON. “We’re excited to deliver this new technology to BPA clients and members, ensuring their clients remain compliant, members continue getting the quality care they’re accustomed to with BPA, and both see substantial cost savings.”
